On your primary question, I tend to agree with the earlier two posts- inverter designs are not for the weak in the heart.

But maybe in your case it is only 10Watts and you can try. Even then there is no need to bring in the 8051 , can be done in the non MCU way. I dont suppose that you are planning for a VFD ! That will be quite demanding even for 10 watts...
