That could eliminate the separate header and separate parallel port programming cable, but you don't get a pretty GUI to use :-(

I don't see why it wouldn't. The uC doesn't care about the source that's driving its SPI port. It would be a simple matter of adding in this tiny bit of hardware. I like it.
