here is one suggestion:
write a "time waist" routine, e.g.
call waist_6;24 clks
or call waist_4

waist_6:
nop ;12
nop ;12
waist_4
ret ;24

First call does the same as 6 nops!
Second call does the same as 4 nops(minimum)!
with a few code and some labels you can create timeouts with a
minimum of 48 clks.
