You could also consider using a 8052 chip with a PCA on board. Then program it to a PWM output. This PWM output would be filtered with a R/C low pass circuit and buffered via a simple OPAMP that had a suitable output swing and the current source/sync capability. I think overall this approach would end up lower cost than a D/A converter approach.
