#47416 - Evaluation Board VS Emulator |
Hello,
I don't really understand when it's better to use an Emulator than an Evaluation Board and vice versa. According to what I have read, an (8052) emulator is like a microcontroller but it allows you to debug, read its signals and so on, that is, you take the microcontroller off from the board and put instead an emulator, which it is like a normal 8052 but has been modified to send to a PC all its signals' info, and execute code step by step. So it seems it is useful to debug the firmware when the microcontroller has to use other components in the board. But, an evaluation board is the contrary, you use an special board to read the signals of a "real" (not emulator) microcontroller. So it seems it is useful only to test the microcontroller. Is that so? If so, can evaluation boards execute the code step by step? Thank you very much, Xavier |
