#47839 - RE: FYI, forwarded 8052.com mailist w/ v Responding to: ???'s previous message |
If a virus appears to have come from the mailing list, it was spoofed. 8052.com runs on a Linux box and the mailing list was written personally by me. The only way for a virus to be sent by the 8052.com mailing list is if someone literally hacks into our system and modifies my mailing list program to mail out a virus.
More likely, someone who subscribes to the mailing list and uses Microsoft Oulook was probably hit by a virus. When the virus activated it probably grabbed the "from" address from a mailing list mail he had recently received and used that as the faked sender. It then either sent itself to people he has recently communicated with or, perhaps, grabbed email addresses out of a recent mailing list email (?). In any case, let me state clearly: THE MAILING LIST WILL NEVER SEND ANYONE A FILE-ATTACH OF ANY KIND EVER. If you receive an email that is supposedly from 8052.com and it has a file attach, it's NOT from 8052.com and you should be careful. Additionally, if you look at the mail headers and the email was not delivered to you directly from mail.vaultinfoserv.com, it's not from 8052.com. Regards, Craig Steiner 8052.com Webmaster |
