There is no other way of programming the Cygnal devices than the JTAG interface. If you buy one of their development kits, however, you get a serial-to-JTAG interface and a complete IDE with wich you can access all the functions the JTAG interface has to offer. This includes not only programming but also debugging.

The Serial Adapter is also available separately, but I would advise on buying the kit; the prototype board gives you a good platform to start coding and it's better value for money too.
