#48140 - ISP for CYGNAL DEVICES

ISP for Cygnal Devices??
----------------------

1. I have been designing 8051 based micrcontroller circuits with ISP facility for about two years.
I have extensively used Phillips P89C51RD2/P89C668 chips with Philips Win ISP for all my projects and found it convenient.
I have never used a development boards or emulators and I directly built target board and write my applications

2. Recently on hearing about features and power of Cygnal devices, I have bought C8051F005-DK development kit and evaluated
the device and found to be very useful. I am an eletronics hobbyist not into making products for commertial selling.

3. With the Cygnal devices what I find is using JTAG port and Serial adaptor is the only way I can program the devices.
It is OK for usage of F005 devices as I already have the serial adaptor part of Development kit and I can use them directly
on my target boards. But I want to try out different Cygnal devices for my different applications.
As I am an hobbyist and I cannot afford development kit with serial adaptor for each device I want to try out.

4. I want to know the following information:-

(a) Can I use the same Serial adaptor of F005-DK to program other devices such as F2xx, F300 series devices
and new devices.

(b) Is there any simpler way to program the cygnal devices similar to the one provided by Phillips/ATmel
for Rd2 type of devices. Another problem is the low pinout devices such as F30x and F32X devices use C2 Serial Interface
rather than JTAG interface to program the new devices.

(c) I had gone through AN005 of Cygnal, but it requires to dedicate a Fxxx device to program the other new devices
through JTAG interface only.

(d) MemUtilProgCL provided in Cygnal CD is a dos based program. How do I connect the device to PC if I have to
use this utiliy.

(e) When the Cygnal devices are shipped what is the default Bootloader loaded into it to enable users to carry out
ISP without need for development kits or Serial Adaptors.

5. The same questions were posted to Cygnal Technical Support team and Cygnal Distributor in India but there is no
response from them. I request the forum to help me out.
