Yes, no problem. I use my Serial Adapter for the F015, the F022, F023, F124 and F300.

I don't know what you mean by "simpler". Using the JTAG interface to program (and debug!) these devices is simple and straightforward.

C2 is a modified version of JTAG, fully supported by the Serial Adapter. You can read the C2 Interface Specification if you like, to get the full details.

So, what's the problem?

You don't have to use it, plain and simple. It is primarily intended for use in a (small) production environment. For development/debugging/testing/hobby, the IDE is more suitable. I use it all the time.

"(e) When the Cygnal devices are shipped what is the default Bootloader loaded into it to enable users to carry out ISP without need for development kits or Serial Adaptors."

There is no bootloader. You use the JTAG interface to program the device. As Andy pointed out here , that's still ISP.
