"Is FS tied high ?"

Yes, it's tied high. They didn't have it tied high initially but we caught that last night and they tied it high. No difference in behavior.

"Are you sure that your signals are right ON THE PINS OF THE DEVICES ?"

Yes, so far three different people have checked it and we agree the lines are connected correctly.

"Are you in power down mode ?"

You mean the powerd down mode activated by setting bit DI15 in the configuration register? If so then no, it's not powered down.

"What config sequence are you using ? The start up looks tricky for the first time."

We've tried so many different configurations and they all return nothing. What do you mean by "tricky for the first time?" Our take on the datasheet and the communication protocol is that the same configuration sequence must be written each time we want a sample back--not just the first time.

Anyway, the story continues to unfold.
