Yes, it is doing it in software and thus is almost certain to exceed the OP's size constraints. However, I personally found the appnote to be an interesting read and am glad you brought it to our attention. Those Triscend devices you regularly "promote" ;-) sure seem like they would be fun to work with -- maybe sometime...
