Try using a 555 timer chip set up as a one shot. They are cheap and available at radio shack. They will drive 200 ma so you don't have to worry about what you hang on it. You might need to reverse the signaloutput but that can be handled by a transistor. I have used this type of circuit for over 20 years and it works well.
