Yes Mike. What you said cannot be said better. When most authors talk about the pros and cons of C versus Assembly, many a practical point is missed out. What they fail to address in a big way is the hardware abstraction that the OS provides when coding in C for desktop applications - one could have written so many programs in C and still be completely ignorant of the x86 processor registers/ports and the like. In fact this is the rule rather than an exception. Maybe if one is extremely good at C, then (maybe) he can read through the manuals from Keil or a book like Embedded C ( by Michael Pont ) and get to start. But if one is new to BOTH assembly and C , then learning C first to code for 8 bit MCUs, is sheer waste of time and resources. Raghu |
