#50865 - RE: Admission Responding to: ???'s previous message |
This C versus Assembler discussion brings up a question I've had for some time...how much larger (if that's the case) is a compiled C program vs one written directly in assembler? While its impossible to give a precise figure due to the varying complexity of an application, is there a rule of thumb or even actual comparisons that demonstrates a tangible difference? I would tend to think that it is easier to implement clever space saving tricks in assembler then in C, although a sophisticated C compiler could certainly minimize such a difference and even improve upon poorly written assembler code. It would be interesting to hear from those who have used both methods and see what their thoughts are concerning executable code size. |
