After search and study it finally and mainly comes to how you receive the bounce back whether its laser or ultra sound.

Laser has better directivity (not sure of its reflectivity) and can reach farther than ultra sound.

The difficulty of the problem is in making a good bounce receptor, economical both in cost, size and good in receiving enough energy.
