Have you checked that there is 0 steady state current in your driver transistors, personally I would drive the trnasisttors with an inverter.

Darlington stages are not particularly fast, and you might find a modern bridge chip works better/cooler/more efficiently/delivers more kick.

The C across the motor MUST be in series with around a 100 R NON-INDUCTIVE resistor.
