This is not a 8052 subject. But today is Sunday - and so hope that this thread wont be bumped off ..!!

Can anybody explain how do guys at the satellite control center or places like NASA manage to communicate with satellites or spacecraft that are thousands / millions of miles away. Like for instance how do they manage two way communication with the Mars Rover ( example ) and make it obey the commands?

We have seen the levels of attenuation in the remote signals that we normally use - particularly the 433Mhz - one for industrial remote. The range that one can reliably get is only a few hundred meters.

So to cross long distances the signal must be very strrrrong ? May not be possible when you consider that the source of power power is only a few solar panels for satellites. So how do they manage this distance issue ?

Or do they use some high funda amplifiers and filters to remain locked to the telemetry data ?
