For deep sky a 4" is just too small - you won't get the light grasp - an 8" would be better. Build your own, put it on a Dobsonian mount, and a Poncet platform (or drive it like Mel Bartel's site shows) . BTW John Dobson(ian) stayed in our home last year on his European tour.

I hadn't realised that we had other amateur astronomers in 8052.com either !

We had over 300 people looking through our scopes last week - 250 times magnification on Mars lets you see the details in Syrtis major, and Valles Marineris.

Friday was the best night I have ever seen in a UK August.
