If the robot is to be the result of your project, then your professor is being totally stupid insisting on developing the subsystems from discrete components.

There is no point re-inventing the wheel time, after time. I think your "professor" has too little experience of the real engineering world, like many of them.

The solution to an engineering problem is the one that works best and cheapest.

I think there is only one senior academic reading and posting in 8052.com, which I think tells a tale.
