#55378 - RE: Oops...the story link.... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The point I am trying to make is more "do not post something works outside the specs" than "avoid running outside the specs".
The inexperienced readers have no means of knowing which "works" is real and which is luck. Just now there are 3 posts in the hopper that state that something outside the specs "works" and the unsuspecting "glory be, I can do it that way" member will design something and come back "why does it not work, I followed your advice". Even worse, how many posts have we had over the years "this circuit "works" with derivative X, but when I replace with derivative Y which should be equivalent it does not work. I recall a post stating something like "I hate the manufacturers that believe that they can change things as they want, #$%^ them". When push came to shove it turned up that the problem was an open pin and that both parts were as specified. I am asking those giving advice not to use the phrase "it works" for things that are not within spec because that will probably not work for somebody else. Erik |
