Ok, the car analogy was a bad one, cars are subject to mechanical wear and tear which in general is not true for electronics. It took me a while to work out what "hollow brake rotors" were - we call them "vented brake disks".

I'm just amused by the sweeping statements that are sometimes posted on this forum. To say that a product that has been found to be reliable is in fact not reliable is ridiculous. It is equally ridiculous to say that a product that has been designed to be reliable will be reliable - only observation of its performance will actually demonstrate whether it is, in fact, reliable.

One of Erik's favourites is:

"Testing does not prove it works" (please correct me if I am misquoting). One might counter this with:
"Designing carefully does not prove it will work"
