I have a good source for a Comm Port, but what I like about the Hyperterminal is the way it handles the screen. It scrolls forever plus I don't have to explain anything to a customer. What I suspect, is that as soon as you open the com port with another program, a conflict will arise, but maybe, with a direct hardware command (in DOS it was a port) to set RTS and DTR might work without error messages..
