I never seen an expert who likes autorouting of boards :)
In the past I used to autoroute the board then cleanup afterwards for fastest results, lots of clean up though.
I needed to produce a product fast, so I used pcad2001 to draw schematics, used its autorouter and i got 135 vias. I used spectra autorouter and I got vias down to 65 first pass and I'm not expert on specctra!, no cleanup required 2 minutes job.
I emailed the gerber files to a PCB manufacturer and my samples worked first time!
