#58516 - 8bit DAC + 8 bit DAC =16Bit DAC? |
I now need a 16 bit DAC to provide a 0-10V signal proportional to a 16bit value.
Looks like this is not as common as the 8 bit fellow 0808. So what I plan to do is this : Use two 8 bit DACS and the current to voltage output scaled to provide 5.00 V for 0xff. Feed the LSB to one DAC and MSB to the other DAC. Use a simple summing amplifier to combine both outputs and get a range of 0-10V for 0x0000 to 0xffff. Is this idea OK ? ( For argument sake ignore the component count - I know its high ) (The forum search yielded many 12bit DAC discussions and one "Wide DAC" thread. And Google points to some stuff on Creative lab voice cards.) Any help / tips are welcome. Thanks Raghu |
