Thank you very much for all the inputs given by you. as for the doubt in dennis' mind, I built the device in a compex CPLD using HDL....and the design works just fine. my part in the project was just to build the chip...... i have no idea where and for what purpose it is being used. but i have been told that the product has been installed at customer site for some months now.. with no complaints whatsoever from his side!!!!!

lets say that I need the information i seek for my personal use.. to have something to add to my resume. i cant imagine how a prospective employer would react If i told him that i wrote code for making a chip and i dont know how it functions or where it is used!!!!

however, I thank you all for the suggestions put forward by you.... micheal..ur 8-point program has really appealed to me!!!!
