I totally agree with everything that you both wrote. In fact, I would personally never use such abbreviations since I acknowledge the fact that there is a time and a place for different styles of writing. At the same time, however, I would not think of using the abbreviation "uC" (for micro-controller), as an example, in a letter to an important customer (which is accepted here). Possibly a hobbyist-newcomer might find such inconsistencies confusing at first. Just a thought!

I do believe that it is right to politely correct those when they do something inappropriate -- the operative word being "politely". Perhaps I have simply been reading too much into some of the responses, but it seems as though some people are a little "short" at times. Like I said though, it could just be me! :)
