#61644 - RE: abbreviations Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Erik,
Your observation that there are two types of abbreviations is spot-on! One type, as you pointed out, are the many accepted electronic abbreviations (such as 'u' for micro, 'F' for farad). In an electronics-based forum these are appropriate. I must, however, disagree with your description of the second type (you described as being the "see how smart/cute/lazy I am" type). I agree that in THIS forum the second type of abbreviation should not be used, but I totally disagree with the judgement that anyone who uses such abbreviations are being "smart/cute/lazy". There is always the possibility that the offender simply typed it in through force of habbit. As a result I simply think it's fair to "politely" explain the infraction of the rules rather than be sarcastic and/or be short with them (for first time offenders, at least). Anyways, enough of my rambling. Everyone have a Happy (and safe) New Years! Jon |
