#63663 - RE: Mouse encoders: PS/2 or directly?
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Bartoz,

I'm not sure of your application but I gather it is not too critical as you're thinking of using mice. What Erik mentions about the noise can be an issue - especially if you don't know about it and in a critical servo control application can cause a big problem. The little chip in your mouse is most likely a micro and what does it do to cope with this noise issue? Maybe a little filtering in the code? Or maybe because it is a non-critical application that if the noise does happen, then the mouse pointer may crawl.

In the interests of keeping things simple, I would suggest you try grabbing the 4 sense signals from the mouse and playing around with some code in your micro rather than going down the PS/2 route. Keep in mind the number of rpm, the pulses per revolution and the sample time of the software in you micro and you should be able to do what you want.

Don't be too afraid to experiment - nothing beats hard-won experience!
