I thought that was common sense that it exists... I was thinking that the arguments were about it could or not have impact in a given situation...

even with a home made encoder (i.e. a plastic gear with six holes drilleds in the edge attached to a motor shaft) I could read > 10000 rpm when the motor was stopped. It only needed that the encoder stopped in the "right" alignment with the IR transceiver...
