#63981 - Conclusion: Unknown Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Having followed this thread for the last few days, I've reached the conclusion that I am no closer to making a decision than I was before I asked the question. :) It seems to be a pretty even split as to whether or not members believe switching forum softwares is worthwhile. There are certainly valid arguments in favor of both.
I checked out phpnuke, and I wasn't as excited about it as I may be with phpbb. So at this point it would seem to be a decision between phpbb and the current forum software. One thing that would be nice and which isn't currently supported by either phpbb or the current software is the idea of attachments. It would be great if files (embedded images or referenced source code, etc.) could be attached to the message. I think this is something I will definitely want to add regardless of which software we end up using. Someone mentioned they like the uncluttered appearance of the current software. I definitely agree with that. I like a lot of the flexibility in phpbb, but I agree that it is way too cluttered. There are buttons all over, icons to click, etc. If we were to go with phpbb I think I'd probably want to tone it down a bit and get rid of the cluttered appearance. But in that case I wonder if the phpbb look and feel would be so altered that the convenience of a consistent look and feel between this and other forums would be lost. Anyway, I thank everyone for their input. If you have any more input, please feel free to continue to comment because I haven't, unfortunately, made a decision yet.
