This happens when your hypoterminal settings do not match the modem settings. If you change the modem's baud rate and/or number of data bits and/or parity setting(s), you must also make the same change(s) to the hypoterminal Settings. Beware: In some versions of hypoterminal (Win98, certainly) you have to disconnect & reconnect before any changes actually take effect - even though the new values are shown immediately in the status bar! Just one reason why hypoterminal is quite commonly regarded with contempt! :-( |
