If this is a cursory security measure, I would suggest using one of the models with built in FLASH memory and ISP (e.g. Atmel T89C52Rx2 [boy I hope I got that number right]). Then you can store the password right on board. If, however, yours is a higher security concern, you might want to store the password on another system, like a main server.
