#70160 - RE: Home on the Range Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I think there's a deep lesson to be learned from the homeschooling phenomenon in this country, and from the failures of recent decades in our public schools. That lesson is that there is no direct correlation between the money spent and the quality of the education produced.
As the education professionals, the educrats as I like to call them, have spent more and more money their performance has gone down and further down. I cant' remember where, but I do remember recently seeing it reported that in the past few years high school graduates passed a milestone. It has gotten to the point that more high school graduates in this country require remedial courses their first year in university than do not. Yet it seems that in recent years most of the national speelling bees, or geography bees, have been won by homeschooled children. Again, I apologize that I can't recall where, but I do recall seeing it reported that they found no homeschooled students in need of remedial courses upon arriving at university (same report). Clearly there are times that money must be spent to accomplish something. But it is equally clear that it is a dangerous trap to fall into, thinking that the solution to every problem is to spend more money. And this is a good lesson to take back to the drawing table when working on a new design. |
