This methode worked some years ago, when the extense use of professional CAD software was the exception. But maybe, that today PCB manufacturer have said good-bye to this methode.

You can still get boards made that way, but you have to pay extra. Which is why I just convert the scan to a Gerber "bitmap" - it took less than 100 lines of C code to make a converter utility...
