Fine Peter. I agree it would be better to learn C from better type programs.

I could comment that there have been many times I have been given programs by a client to modify or maintain. It can be a good challenge to change things sometimes when the original author has made the code in work in extremely obtuse ways. I can honestly say that I have seen programming that was done in ways that would make both of us puke. And some of the obtuse code has been way worse that my "hiding the needle in the haystack".
