after the Triscend fiasco I would hesitate to lock my future to Cyan Technology or any such 'unique device' company. Which is the redeeming feature Xilinx's Triscendicide: both the E5 and the A7 were based on well-established, widely available and widely-supported - almost de facto standard - processors (8051 and ARM respectively). Thus, although the devices themselves have been lost, the software development investment has not been wasted on some now-defunct, proprietary CPU! That was one of the main points of both Erik's and my recommendation of the ARM - even if you choose a Brand 'X' ARM, and it bombs, there will still be 47 other varieties to choose from! |
