#73609 - Looking for some USB alternatives |
I have a unit working at the moment that uses an FTDI FIFO to USB module to transmit small packets of data to a laptop, which is handy as I can literally throw the data from port 2, toggle a line, and let the module take care of the data, leaving the software to get on with everything else.
However, I have just found out that we are replacing the laptops with Pocket PC devices, with no USB master. They do have serial, IRDA and Bluetooth. Is there anything similar to the FTDI device, as I think if I try to use serial bitbanging for example it will have too great an overhead. I'm guessing maybe a seperate micro or uart to transmit to the serial port, or maybe a device similar to the FTDI one that works on IRDA, but I'm interested to see if you have any other ideas? Thanks. |
