#73953 - RE: weekend OT: cruise control Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hallo Raghunathan,
maybe I should concretize my statement: "If I find a car driving constantly at a suited speed, I do either follow him at constant distance, or I will drive in front of him, also at constant distance." It's not so, that I search for a car driving at my speed. It's more so, that sometimes, if you are on a longer trip on highway, you notice, that there's another car driving at nearly same speed. And after a whole series of overhaul manoeuvres (puh, what a word...) I find it suited no longer to overhaul him, and he finds it suited no longer to overhaul me. Finally we drive in a column with nearly same speed, sometimes over dozens of kilometers. This defensive sort of driving I choose especially if children are in the car. Then I often decide to limit my speed to certain level. Mostly it can be seen, that in the 'mirror car' also a family with kids is sitting... By the way, I do also like Terry's point of view. Isn't it amazing how much psychology plays a role when doing so simple things like driving a car? We humans are 'group animals' and we like it to be part of and to feel like a group... Bye, Kai |
