I happen to have an obscene number (32 or more) of redundant 5x7 matrix LED characters, with three high intensity yellow LEDS in each pixel, and in a 160mm high block. They are all driven from MAX7221(?) chips, and my own drive system to switch current limited supplies with a 5V chip.

Contact me off list if you want a few. They will be very cheap.

They are driven over SPI bus, and I even have a line buffer card for them.
