Have you considered using a different derivative than the AT89S52? That could make your device simpler and smaller and use less power at the same time.

For example, the SiLabs' C8051F310. Running at 32kHz it could do all the work (including that of the DS1302) and it would require only about 1/5th of the power the AT89S52 uses in power-down mode!
