I've done this before. I used a DAA (Data Access Arrangement) Module from www.cermetek.com, I think the 1840. The DAA provides a complete FCC certified module so you don't have to worry about screwing up the telephone line. Then I connected the DAA to an Intersil CD22202, but I don't think the chip is made any more. Good Luck!
