Does anyone have any recommendations regarding an alphanumeric keypad? I'm working on a project (no, not the SBC nor the "8052 computer") and we'd like to have a keypad.

The unit is generally stand-alone and operates by itself but occasionally the user will have to interact with it. The user will have hundreds of these things so to reduce unit costs we want to have a stand-alone unit which consists of nothing more than an LCD and keypad that can be connected to the devices when it's actually necessary to interact with one of them. That way each unit simply needs a connector which costs pennies.

Since unit cost will not be a problem (since there'll just be one LCD/keypad unit for hundreds of the devices) we'd like to have an alphanumeric keypad because there is a benefit in being able to enter characters--it would save them from having to connect a laptop to the serial port.

Something like the old Atari 400 membrane keyboards would be perfect but I'm not finding anything similar at mouser or digikey. Or maybe I'm just using the wrong search terms.

Any suggestions?
