#79815 - RE: ADUC842 Debugger
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Hello Kasper,

in the very beginning of ADuC812 history, AD promised
to publish the one wire debugging protocol. Ever since
they refuse to inform about any detail. At a recent AD
seminar dealing with ADuC technology, the AD official
told us about Aspire, some licensing stories behind and
that actually Aspire owns the exclusive rights so that
AD "unfortunately" can not do anything about it.
The Aspire units - if they work- are quite nice. But
out of four kits one had a problem with the BGA soldering, one went for no reason banana and so two are left.
The combo of Aspire and Keil ist not well documented
(last i worked on was the pre 1 beta, now there is a
1.2 beta) and with the pre 1 beta all I could achieve was a download to the ADuC chip - but no debugging.
For this one has to use the Aspire package - where you
could include Keil. We are still fighting some hassles with that and ever since the 1.05 update there are no
good news from Aspire.
By the way - the Aspire "Spear" - the tricky board - is
a bare PCB. So don´t expect some protection against
shorts - unless you provide some enclosure to the pcb.
But be careful: The special chip is getting quite hot!

So we are working mostly with the AD tools and the Keil
debugging capabilities.

The new ARM- based ADuC´s offer a well documented and
supported JTAG interface.
May be, worth to consider ;o))
