You will be MUCH better off if you looked at the processors from Silicon Labs. The former Cygnal parts have JTAG debugging that works rather well, has an available JTAG adapter pod that costs very little, an IDE that supports the debugging that you can download off the web site, AND if you look you can find info on how the debug feature works (if you should care).
