#8087 - RE: Lots of power needed |
hey folks,
do you all out there remember the good old atari ST computer ? There was a projekt in these days to have the full display of this computer as a led display. if it is not clear. it was a 640 x 400 led display ! okay again 640 x 400 = 256000 leds. this display was presented at the cebit hanover fair .... have you ever thought about multiplexing the leds ? lets say that in you app you divide this into 16 sectors. only one of the 16 sectors is on, all others are off. then the current will be reduced to 1/16 but all leds are on ! if the multiplexing is fast enough the your eyes won't see it. think about that. in the st project, the circuit was connected directly to the monitor port. so only a few of the leds were on .... if you reduce the duty cycle, the you can increase the current. that is was most ir-transmitters do. a short over current to sent out a a short but a very bright light.
