Thanx for your answers, that, however that was not the question. I can find 117 cases where it makes sense and is right to pass parametres and 117 cases where it is not. Let me give an example: I were passed for repair a program with a lot of printf statements, all controlled by a flag for english/spanish. Every function, in the program had that flag passed to it. While I ended up changing the system to table selection I still set the flag in a global variable or I would have to pass that flag around all over the place. I am not suggesting a switch to global variables, I am merely curious about the morbid fear of using such even when it makes sense.
