Use the DS1232 or the MAX1232, they also give you the CPU Reset signal. They have an in-built watchdog timer. A very valuable recommendation, indeed. These chips offer you 1) POR generation (Power On Reset) 2) Brown-out detection (at 5% or 10% of VCC) 3) Manual Reset 4) Watchdog timer and all above resulting in a very reliable startup. I would suggest you not to fabricate your own using discrete components, buy a ready made chip (eliminate the variables needed to be analyzed when CPU wouldn't start) |
