I would highly recommend to use this "89ISP In-system Programmer" from Atmel, instead of designing some own!
Why?
I have put my scope on reset line once and noticed that Atmel does some strange things there.

If you want to save costs then you can build this programmer (also called "cable") by yourself and download programming software from Atmel's website. The schematic for the "cable" is a bit hidden, you will find it here:

Do not make any change, especially refering to signal configuration on flat ribbon cable!
