This programmer worked for me, it did program AT89S8252 and S53.
Why don't you try the program under win98 because winxp is a nightmare for accessing hardware directly. My old propic2 programmer used to work fine under winxp but since I upgraded it to service pack 2 it stopped working. I keep switching back and forth between win98 and winxp which is quite a task.
