As a matter of fact, it takes around 11.5 msec but is it possibble to use 9600 baud rate @ 12 MHz of classic '51?

Hi George. It is not possible to get 9600 bps with a 12MHz xtal without going out of +/- 3% error. My reference is the Dallas Semiconductor's Soft uC DataBook, Auto-Baud Rate Detection paragraph, which has a useful table with 30 xtal frequencies and the baud rates supported from 300 to 19200 bps.

A link to this book (2.1MB PDF file)

I hope the table is right, because I've not done the numbers to check it...

(hehe... the thread is getting longer and we still don't know what the original poster wanted - Craig, wouldn't be a good idea to 'clean' the forum from time to time?)
